A Note from Josh
I'm Josh Abbey. I grew up in Ghana, and when I was younger I fell in love with photography. I wanted to be great at it — but I had no one to show me the way. I reached out to people in the space, people I looked up to, and got nothing back. No guidance. No mentorship. No one willing to hold my hand through even the basics.
What should have taken me a few months took me years. I learned everything the hard way — through trial and error, through wasted time, through frustration. And the whole time I kept thinking: it shouldn't be this hard to learn a skill from someone who already knows it.
Eventually I moved to the US to study Technology Management. I taught myself how to code, how to design, how to build software from scratch. And as I built up those skills, one idea kept pulling at me: what if learning a skill could be social? What if you could follow a real expert — not a university, not a faceless course — and learn directly from them, the way you'd learn from a mentor who actually cares?
That's ShowMe. I built it because I lived the problem. I know what it feels like to have something burning inside you and no one willing to help you bring it out. ShowMe is not another course marketplace. It's a place where skills, events, communities, and organizations can become living spaces called Compounds. Your brand. Your people. Your momentum.
